John Abdulai Jinapor, the Member of Parliament representing the Yapei Kusawgu Constituency, has joined the chorus urging for the construction of the road leading to the Buipe Savannah Diamond Cement Company Ltd.
Mr. Jinapor's stance comes in the wake of a closed-door meeting he convened with the company's management, alongside other community leaders including the District Chief Executive, last Friday.
Extending from the Buipe Tamale Highway to Damongo, the road in question serves as a vital link connecting rural settlements like Old Buipe, Lito, Sor 1, Sor 2, and more to the regional capital of Savannah. Despite longstanding promises from the government to address its state, the road remains neglected.
Situated 6.5 km from the Buipe Tamale Highway, the Buipe Savannah Diamond Cement Company Ltd heavily relies on this road for its operations. However, its current dilapidated condition poses significant challenges to both motorists and local residents, particularly exacerbating health risks due to excessive dust during the dry season.
The discontent among the youth has escalated, with plans for a peaceful demonstration against the neglect by the cement company. They argue that the company bears a corporate social responsibility to maintain the road.
Following discussions with the company's management, MP John Abdulai Jinapor has redirected the focus towards governmental intervention to address the road's dire state.
Mr. Jinapor emphasizes the rights of the local youth to advocate for governmental action within the confines of the law.
