Former President John Dramani Mahama has donated food items to ssupport the first anniversary celebration of yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Soale Jewu's reign on the Gonja skin.
The anniversary is being celebrated in Damongo together with the 48th Annual Congress of the Gonjaland Youth Association as well as the Guan Congress in from 25th to 28th April, 2024.
Yagbonwura Jewu Soale I was enskinned last year after the demise of his predecessor Boressah.
President Mahama, a son of Gonja who was enskinned Kashinten-wura, made the donation on Tuesday, 23rd April, 2024, through the Savannah Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by the Chairman Alhaji Seidu Imoro.
The items included 20 bags of Rice, 20 packs of Verna Drinking Water, 2 cans of cooking oil, a fat bull, and a cash amount of Two Thousand Ghana Cedis.
Alhaji Imoro, in a media interaction after the donation, disclosed that the former President as a son of the land will personally be in Damongo on Friday, April 26th, 2024, to honour the the King's 1st year anniversary, the Gonjaland Youth Association as well as the Guan Congresses.
Alhaji Imoro Seidu again added that John Dramani Mahama has promised to take care of other costs that may arise for the program to be a success.
He further stated that he and the New Patriotic Party Chairman of the Savannah Region, are putting plans together to make Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu(l) program special.
He hinted that a peaceful football friendly match would be organised between the NPP and NDC in the region to signify peace.
Chief Linguist of the overlord of Gonja, Mr Sulemana Adam who received the donation on behalf of the Yagbonwura thanked former President Mahama for the donation and indicated that John Dramani Mahama is a true son of the land and will surely conquer the battle ahead in December, just like Ndewura Jakpa, the mighty warrior who fought his way through many battles and never got disgraced.
