Mahama to cut sod for a new palace for Yagbonwura on Friday

Information reaching kashafmonline.com indicates that John Dramani Mahama will on Friday cut sod for the construction of a new Jakpa Palace in Damongo.

The new Palace will be the official residence and office of the King and Overlord of Gonja, the Yagbonwura.

Gonjaland has had plans to construct a new Palace for the Kingdom to replace the old one, which was built to house the Yagbonwuras from Yagbonwura Awushi, who first settled in Damongo in 1943.

The new palace Kashafmonline.com understands is being financed by former President John Mahama.

The new palace comprises 4 phases, a palace to house the King, a separate place to house his household, a multipurpose hall for proceedings and other durbars and a museum to display the artifacts and other historical sites in the Kingdom.

Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Soale Jewu I made it his priority to have a palace constructed when he assumed the reigns of the kingdom last year.

Kashafmonline.com understands that a contractor has been engaged and has started work.

The sod cutting ceremony is part of the activities to mark the 1st anniversary of Yagbonwura Jewu I.
