REVIVING OUR CHERISHED LEGACY: A CALL FOR ROYAL LEADERSHIP TO HONOUR NDEWURA JAKPA.

To your Royal Majesty, the King and Overlord of Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale l.

Jira, I write to you with utmost respect and devotion, urging your attention to Ndewura Jakpa Senior High Technical School (NDESCO), a vital institution named after our esteemed founder Sumaila Ndewura Jakpa. The school which was established in 1991 stands as a testament to our heritage and plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our youth.

All over the world, institutions carry the names of members of royalty who contributed greatly to their kingdom.

In the southern sector, recognition have been given to Okomfo Anokye, Osei Tutu l, Osei Tutu Agyeman Prempeh ll, Yaa Asantewaa and a lot for their contributions towards the Ashanti kingdom. Such institutions are highly respected because the Asanteman council play major role in the uplifting of the schools in terms of fostering discipline, providing educational support and cultural identity.

In the Northern sector, Ndewura Jakpa is the only founder of a Kingdom who has been given such a recognition by the management of the then Damongo secondary Technical School for his role in his wars of conquest to capture almost half of the landmark of Ghana for his people. Thanks to those who conceived the idea to recognize such a powerful king in Africa.

The school also recognized some distinguished royals within the Gonja kingdom. As a boarding school, the school can boast of four domintories for boys and two domintories for girls.

Jira, it will interest you to know that, all the domintories were named after very distinguished personalities in the Gonja kingdom.

1. Kanyiti House has been named after Yagbonwura Kanyiti from Tuluwe, who reigned from 1987 to 1990.

2. Awushie House named after Yagbonwura Ewuntomah Mahama Awushie from Wasipe who reigned from 1942 to 1975 and noted for moving the capital of the Gonja kingdom from Nyange to Damongo.

3. Timu House named after Yagbonwura J.A Braimah from Kpembe who reigned from 1983 to 1987 and noted for his prolific writings of the history of the Gonja culture and traditions.

4. Kurabaso House was named after Yagbonwura Mahama Abudu Kurabaso from Bole who reigned from 1975 to 1982. He was the son of Yagbonwura Mahama Dagbanga (1912-1942) noted for initiating the 1930 meeting of Enquiry into the Organization of Gbanye kingdom.

5. The girls domintories were named after the two royal gates of Damongo( Lermu and Gbeniyiti instead of Danga).

The decision to name the domintories after these revered kings signifies the contributions they played in shaping the Gonja kingdom hence the need to preserve their legacies.

The Significance of my call;

1. For the purpose of Cultural Legacy: the school was named after Ndewura Jakpa, the founder of the Gonja Kingdom, the school embodies our history and traditions. It serves as a reminder of our rich cultural identity, fostering pride among students and the community.

2. Educational Excellence: Ndewura Jakpa Secondary Technical School is pivotal in providing quality education and technical training. Supporting this institution means investing in the future leaders and innovators of our kingdom.

3. Community Development: The school is not only a place of learning but also a hub for community engagement. By nurturing skilled individuals, we can drive economic growth and enhance the overall well-being of our people.

4. The name of our founder, Ndewura Jakpa will continue to be in the lips of young people which will go a long way in preserving our great history.

A Call for Royal Support;

Jira, to strengthen Ndewura Jakpa Secondary Technical School, I urge your Royal Majesty to consider the following:

1. Using your well thoughtful established Educational fund to provide resources for infrastructure improvements, educational materials, teacher training and education to enhance the quality of education.

2. Provide scholarships and Incentives for deserving students of Ndewura Jakpa Secondary Technical School who excel in the final exams to ensure that financial barriers do not hinder access to higher education.

3. Community Engagement: Encouraging all stakeholders including the local community to actively participate in school activities and development initiatives. This will foster a sense of ownership and collaboration.

4. Encourage all traditional areas whose royals have been given recognition by the school to show a sense of commitment and reciprocity to the school by supporting the school to upgrade particularly those dormitories named after their kinsmen.

CONCLUSION

I wish once again appeal to your royal highness to be the pacesetter for the Gonja kingdom by taking the school as a project to honor Ndewura.

Your Majesty, by paying special attention to Ndewura Jakpa Secondary Technical School you will honor our legacy and invest in the future of the Gonja Kingdom. Together, we can empower our youth and secure a prosperous future for our community.
