The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Savannah Region hosted a simulation exercise on November 7, 2024, to prepare key stakeholders for potential electoral violence ahead of Ghana's December general elections.

Held at the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council (SRCC) conference hall, the exercise brought together 11 major stakeholders, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Fire Service, Social Welfare, and Immigration, among others.

The exercise, dubbed "Exercise Stay Safe," served as a platform for these agencies to strategize on maintaining peace, addressing security threats, and ensuring a smooth electoral process.

The event was part of a nationwide effort by NADMO, with similar simulations conducted in 13 regions and a larger event at NADMO’s headquarters.

George Peaceful Agbenatoe, NADMO’s Deputy Director of Operations, explained the importance of this proactive measure in an interview with kashafmonline.com.

“With the 2024 elections approaching, we know that risks of electoral violence cannot be overlooked. As part of our mandate, we organize these simulations to bring together security collaborators to test and enhance our collective preparedness," he said.

"The objective is to safeguard the public and maintain peace across Ghana, both during and after the election period."

Savannah Region NADMO Director Mohammed Tohir expressed confidence in the readiness of stakeholders, stating that the exercise reinforced the roles of various agencies and their commitment to a peaceful electoral process.

“I am impressed with the preparedness displayed by our key partners. Their dedication is clear there will be no room for electoral violence here,” he stated.

He, therefore, urged the electorates to uphold peace as the nation heads to the polls. "I appeal to all citizens to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair election on December 7, 2024," he added, encouraging the public to act responsibly and support a stable, democratic election.
