Hon. Salisu Bi-Awuribi, the Minister Nominee for the Savannah Region, paid a courtesy visit to the Jakpa Palace in Damongo on Friday, where he met with Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu (I), the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom.
In an address to the media following the visit, Hon. Bi-Awuribi explained that his visit was in accordance with tradition, to formally introduce himself to the King and seek his approval for the parliamentary vetting scheduled for January 27, 2025.
"I am here for familiarization and blessings. While the King is familiar with me, as tradition requires, it is only proper to visit my overlord for guidance and blessings before my vetting later this month," he said.
Bi-Awuribi emphasized the importance of the work ahead, noting that there was much to be done following his vetting and parliamentary confirmation.
He acknowledged the lack of development in the Savannah Region since its creation, stating that it was not enough to merely establish an area without proper infrastructure and development.
"The Savannah Region has not developed as expected since its creation by the previous administration. It’s not enough to simply name an area, we must build what is appropriate for it.
"I will do everything in my power to assist President Mahama in resetting Ghana, as well as developing the Savannah Region to meet the aspirations of its people," he added.
A lawyer, development expert, valuation professional, and law lecturer, Hon. Bi-Awuribi is well-equipped for the task ahead.
He previously served as the District Chief Executive for Central Gonja and holds a Master's degree in law from the University of Ghana, a Bachelor's degree in Land Economy from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and a professional qualifying certificate in law from the Ghana School of Law.
With Bi-Awuribi's clear focus on development and the region’s growth, his visit to the palace has left residents hopeful for a brighter future under his leadership.
