Yagbonwura Hosts Yaa-Naa At Jakpa Palace, Calls For Unity And Development

The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has reiterated his commitment to strengthening the bond between the Gonjas and Dagbon Kingdom.

He made this known when he hosted the King and Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Ndan Yaa-Naa Abubakari Mahama II, at the Jakpa Palace on Sunday, February 16, 2025.

The visit was a historic return gesture following Yagbonwura’s earlier visit to the Gbewaa Palace on June 23, 2024.

Addressing the gathering, Yagbonwura described the visit as a symbol of unity, mutual respect, and shared aspirations for development.

He emphasized the need for both kingdoms to collaborate in areas such as economic growth, security, and youth empowerment.

He also highlighted the importance of peace and stability in chieftaincy, calling on the government and the National House of Chiefs to codify traditional customs and practices to resolve succession disputes.

He further urged the leadership of the Gonja and Dagbon Youth Associations to work together in fostering peace and development.

Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II emphasized the long-standing relationship between the two kingdoms, particularly through intermarriages and shared cultural heritage.

He stressed the need for collaborative efforts in promoting peace, education, and economic empowerment.

The Dagbon King also called for initiatives to combat illiteracy, reduce school dropout rates, and develop skills training programs, particularly for young girls, to prevent rural-urban migration for low skilled jobs.

He encouraged the youth to see themselves as agents of positive change for the growth of their communities.

Both leaders expressed their commitment to deepening the bond between the two traditional authorities and working towards lasting unity and development.
