As part of efforts to tackle the persistent water challenges in Damongo and its surrounding communities, the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Bi-Awuribi, and the West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, on Tuesday, May 27, led a delegation of investors from Energy China to key water infrastructure sites in the region.
The team toured the Ntereso Water Pump Station, which sources water from the White Volta at Yapei, and also visited the Black Volta at Buipe.
The purpose of the visit was to assess the feasibility of drawing water from these sources to supply Damongo, the capital of the Savannah Region.
This development follows a recent trip by Hon. Bi-Awuribi to Accra, where he engaged officials at the Chinese Embassy and outlined key challenges facing the region key among them, the water crisis.
That meeting opened the door for Energy China, a leading infrastructure firm, to express interest in supporting the region’s water needs.
Both the Regional Minister and the MCE expressed optimism that the partnership would result in timely action and the commencement of a long-term solution to the area’s water problems.
“We are hopeful that this visit will translate into concrete action. The people of Damongo have waited long enough, and we believe this partnership will bring lasting relief,” said Hon. Bi-Awuribi.
