Arise Bole Youth Petition Interior Minister Over Alleged Security Brutalities

The Arise Bole Youth group has petitioned the Minister for the Interior over what they describe as persistent human rights abuses and brutalities being perpetrated by security personnel enforcing the curfew in Bole and its surrounding communities.

The group, in a petition dated September 3, 2025, noted that although the recent violent clashes between Gonjas and Brifos occurred in the Sawla District, residents of Bole who have complied with the curfew are now facing intimidation and harassment from security forces.

According to the petition, residents have reported incidents of unlawful night raids, beatings, extortion, and property destruction.

The group also alleged that an elderly man in his sixties lost his life as a result of the beatings, while several others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

“These actions have instilled fear and trauma in the community and eroded public trust in state institutions,” the petition stated.

The youth group is calling for an immediate investigation into the conduct of the security personnel, justice and compensation for the family of the deceased, medical support for victims, and accountability from all responsible officers.

They also urged the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to intervene.

The petition was signed by Saaka Abdul-Fatawu Jaaga, Secretary of Arise Bole Youth, and copied to the Inspector-General of Police, the National Security Coordinator, CHRAJ, the Savannah Regional Minister, the Bole District Security Council, and the Gonjaland Youth Association.
