The Ghana Chinese Community Association has donated relief items worth over GH₵1 million to victims displaced by the recent conflict in Gbiniyiri, in the Savannah Region.
The donation included 1,200 bags of rice, 500 boxes of tomato paste, 500 blankets, six poly tanks, 500 medium-sized buckets, and other essential supplies to support affected families.
Presenting the items, the association’s secretary, Mr. Stephen Shun, said the gesture reflects the deep care and concern of the Chinese community in Ghana.
He described 2025 as a historic year, marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China, and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to strengthening economic, cultural, and social ties between the two nations.
“As industry pioneers, we have made significant contributions to Ghana’s economy in areas such as infrastructure, energy, technology, and trade. Beyond business, it is our responsibility to give back through support to education, healthcare, orphanages, and now to the victims of this unfortunate conflict,” Mr. Shun noted.
He further encouraged unity between Ghanaians and the Chinese community, stressing the need for continued cooperation and mutual understanding, while praying for the speedy restoration of peace in Gbiniyiri.
Responding on behalf of the government, the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Lawyer Salisu Bi-Awuribe, commended the association for their timely intervention, describing them as “true friends” of the region.
He assured that the relief items would directly benefit the affected families and pledged to inform President Mahama of the gesture.
The Minister also urged the Chinese community to explore business opportunities across the Savannah Region, emphasizing that such partnerships would create a win-win situation for both sides.
“This should mark the beginning of stronger, positive collaborations between the people of the Savannah Region and Chinese businesses,” he said, expressing gratitude on behalf of the government and affected communities.
