A young boy identified as David, a resident of Hangaline in Damongo, has allegedly been caught stealing groundnuts from the home of a woman named Nma Awalikiyi.
The incident happened on Monday, September 22, in broad daylight near the Hangaline public toilet.
According to Mr. Adams, the landlady’s son, David frequently carried out labour work for his mother, making the alleged theft surprising.
He said the family had trusted David with household tasks, only to be disappointed by the incident.
In an interview with Kasha News, David admitted to working for the woman but insisted that he had always been paid for his services.
The case comes at a time when Damongowura and the youth of Damongo are stepping up efforts to curb livestock theft in the area.
Residents, however, fear that criminals may now be shifting their attention from animals to food crops and household items.
Some residents have also linked the rise in theft cases to drug abuse, stressing that addressing the issue of substance misuse could help reduce petty crimes in the municipality.
