The King and Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Jira Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has issued a firm directive for all settlers on Nyange land to vacate immediately to pave the way for the full rehabilitation of the sacred Gonja community.
Speaking at the 2025 Yagbon Damba Durbar, the Yagbonwura emphasized that Nyange is the cradle of the Gonja Kingdom and must be preserved as a symbol of cultural heritage and identity.
“The sanctity of Nyange must be safeguarded for posterity. This land is sacred and must remain so for the generations yet unborn,” he declared.
The King further announced that new bylaws on land use would soon be enacted and strictly enforced to protect Nyange from encroachment.
He cautioned that anyone who disregards the directive will face appropriate legal action.
He also appealed to the government and the President of the Republic to make the rehabilitation of Nyange a legacy project in recognition of its historical and cultural importance to the Gonja people.
Nyange holds deep spiritual and traditional significance as the ancestral home of the Gonja Kingdom.
