GWL EXPLORES ALTERNATIVE WATER SOURCES TO IMPROVE SUPPLY IN GOMOA COMMUNITIES

The Managing Director of Ghana Water Ltd (GWL), Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, has assured residents of Gomoa and surrounding areas in the Central Region that urgent steps are being taken to restore water supply and explore alternative sources to augment the Kwanyako Water Treatment Plant.

During a visit to the Omanhene of Gomoa Ajumako, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, Mr. Mutawakilu explained that the shutdown of the plant was due to extremely high turbidity levels in the Ayensu River caused by illegal mining.

GWL is now assessing the Gyankrom Dam as a potential new intake source to enhance water security and ensure sustainable supply to affected communities.

Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI commended GWL for the swift response and expressed his readiness to support the company’s efforts, saying, “The water situation has become critical, but we are encouraged by the Managing Director’s personal engagement. We are ready to partner and link GWL with investors to bring a lasting solution.”

The visit signals GWL’s commitment to partnership, environmental protection, and the Government’s vision of ensuring universal access to safe drinking water.
