Authorities in Damongo have taken a final decision to site the proposed 24-hour market at the existing daily market, following extensive stakeholder consultations.
The announcement was made by the Chaliwura (Markets Chief), Garba Techi Dari Eric, on behalf of the Damongowura, in the company of the Municipal Chief Executive, Yakubu Yussif Castro, and officials from the Municipal Assembly.
The decision was communicated during a radio appearance on Kasha 99.5 FM on Wednesday, March 25.
The Municipal Chief Executive disclosed that affected traders and occupants have been given a three-week ultimatum, effective March 25, to vacate the site to enable contractors to commence preliminary works.
The 24-hour market project is expected to boost commercial activities in the municipality and contribute to local economic development.
