The Paramount Chief of the Mankpan Traditional Area, His Excellency Jira Mankpanwura Jakpa Achorde Borenyi I, has extended a gesture of goodwill to inmates of the Damongo Prison Camp in the Savannah Region with a donation of food items and cash ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The items, presented on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, included ten 50kg bags of rice, two 25-litre gallons of cooking oil, and an undisclosed sum of money.
Dripewura Matuweamu, who presented the items on behalf of the Paramount Chief, said the donation was intended to support inmates to celebrate the Eid festivities in comfort and dignity.
Receiving the items, the Officer in Charge of the facility, CSP Amatus Siekure, expressed appreciation for the chief’s generosity, noting that the support would significantly improve the welfare of inmates.
He revealed that although the government has recently increased the feeding grant for inmates from GH₵1.80 to GH₵5.00 per meal, the amount remains insufficient to adequately cater for their nutritional needs.
CSP Siekure also highlighted pressing challenges confronting the facility, including the need to equip vocational training workshops and improve access to water.
He appealed for assistance in constructing an additional mechanized borehole to ensure a reliable water supply.
In response, Dripewura Matuweamu assured prison authorities that their concerns would be relayed to the Paramount Chief and thanked the officers for their warm reception.
