A one-hour rainstorm that hit Damongo and its surrounding communities on Saturday, March 14, has caused destruction, leaving several residents homeless and damaging public infrastructure.
The downpour, accompanied by strong winds, severely affected residents of Kpiri and Canteen, where many houses were unroofed and properties destroyed.
Among the facilities affected are the Kpiri School and the Old Kpiri CHPS Compound, both of which sustained considerable damage. Portions of the road leading to Kpiri were also affected by the storm.
Some residents have been forced to relocate after losing their homes. George, a resident of Kpiri, lost his newly built house after its roof was ripped off by the storm.
In the Canteen area, Mr. N-yaaba has had to move his family to a safer place after the roof of their three-bedroom apartment was swept away.
One of the most distressing cases is that of Madam Adjoah, a mother of five who lives with her visually impaired husband in a single-room structure.
She was left in tears after the rainstorm blew away the only roof over their heads, leaving the family without shelter.
Affected residents are appealing to authorities and benevolent individuals for urgent assistance. They are particularly calling on the National Disaster Management Organisation and the Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency to come to their aid.
The latest incident comes barely a week after another heavy downpour in Jonokponto displaced several residents.
