Buipewura commiserate with flood victims, appeals for support

The paramount chief for Buipe Traditional Area, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II on Wednesday, October 11 visited some flood hit areas in Buipe to commiserate with the victims.

Buipewura's visit followed persistent days of flooding that left several homes and schools inundated by flood waters.

In an interview after assessing the extent of havoc caused by the flood waters, he expressed that he is troubled by the severity of damage caused by the floods.

Buipewura used the opportunity to appeal to government and benevolent organisations to come to the rescue of his people.

"Please let the world know that Buipe is in a serious problem. So we are appealing with government and NGOs to hear our cry. Even food is a problem so we are helpless now".

According to him, he is working feverishly with major stakeholders to address the situation which he described as worrisome.

He revealed that plans are advanced to find a permanent solution to the problem by way of relocating the victims to safe grounds.

The Buipewura further revealed that he has made land available for the victims as his contribution to bring finality to the persistent disaster.

Over 3000 people are estimated to have been affected by the disaster with children being the most hit.

The flood is as a result of the Black Volta overflowing its banks.
