The minister for lands and natural resources has reiterated that the government of Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo is not against mining in the country but against destructive mining.
He said the government supports responsibl and sustainable mining that protects the environment and water.
Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor made this known when he led a delegation to Dollar Power, a mining community in the Bole Bamboi district of the Savannah region on Wednesday 31st January 2024.
Mr. Jinapor disclosed that the government will use the security forces to ensure the protection of water bodies and firest reserves from the activities of illegal mining in the area.
He announced that plans were far advanced to issue a community mining licence for Dollar Power
For his part, the Savannah regional minister Hon Saeed Muhazu Jibril said the government was on track to complete the road linking the border town to the rest of the country.
A spokesperson for the chief of the town, Tahiru Mahama, expressed gratitude to the government for the construction of a road leading to the community.

Ghana has overtaken South America as the highest producer of gold in Africa and the sixth in the world.
However, this achievement has come at a cost to the environment.
