The Savannah Regional Education Director Mrs. Mabel Judith Micah presented footballs to districts in the Savannah Region on Friday, January 19, 2023 under the FIFA Footballs For Schools Project
In a ceremony to commerce the distribution of balls in the region, Mrs Micah presented some footballs to the West Gonja Municipal Director of Education Mr Akey Furgson to be distributed to schools the municipality
She expressed her excitement about the project saying the balls will go a long way to keep the students active. 'We are here this morning with all the excitement to receive this balls that had been given to all schools within Ghana from FIFA through GFA to GES which I represent in the region. These balls are going to go a long way to keep our students within the sporting fratanity because we know what sports does to us. No matter the challenges when it comes to sports Ghanaians are one. No political colours'. Savannah Regional Education Director is quoted to have said
One hundred and six schools in West Gonja Municipality is expected to benefit from the balls. Other districts to benefit from the balls are: Sawla Tuna Kalba, Bole, North East Gonja, East Gonja, Central Gonja, and North Gonja.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) in August 2023 worked with the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to train Physical Education teachers selected from across the country. The trained teachers are expected to train other Physical Education Teachers in their respective Districts and Regions for the enhancement of the programme.
The World Football governing body, FIFA, through the Ghana Football Association have made available 30,000 footballs to be distributed to basic schools across the country.
The project forms part of the GFA's quest to develop all aspects of the game and to ensure that members are duly supported by FIFA to boost capacity.
