The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Bureau in the Savannah region held a press conference to express disappointment regarding the conduct of President Akufo Addo and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 48th annual Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) congress and the 1st Anniversary of Jirah Yagbonwura Soale Bii-Kunuto Jewu 1, which took place on April 30, 2024.

During the press conference addressed by R. A Jalil, the Communication Officer of NDC in the Savannah region, the party highlighted a breach of protocol where President Akufo Addo, as a special Guest of Honor, did not follow the established order that required him to speak after all principal speakers had addressed the gathering.

Jalil alleged that this breach occurred when Hon. Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and member of Parliament for Damongo constituency, forcefully seized the microphone from the MCs and handed it to the President to speak out of turn.

Following this incident, President Akufo Addo, accompanied by NPP leadership in the region, left the event suddenly without addressing the concerns raised by Yagbonwura and Gonjalanders.

Mr. Jalil also suggested that the President may have been aware that the King intended to highlight unfulfilled promises in his speech, speculating that this might have contributed to the President's departure.

R. A. Jalil pointed out some of the unfulfilled promises and alleged deceptive practices by President Akufo Addo for which Gonjaland and the Savannah region intend to hold him accountable.

These include the unfulfilled promise of constructing the regional House of Chiefs and the alleged intentional neglect of maintenance on the Sawla-Damongo-Fufulso Road among others.

The NDC Communication Bureau conveyed that these occurrences notably tarnished the Anniversary festivities of the King and Overlord, along with the 48th GLYA congress,. Jalil's remarks at the press conference.
