On May 15, 2024, the Bole District Environmental Unit conducted a public inspection to remove expired goods from shop shelves and dispose of them in Bole Township.

During the exercise, the public health unit inspected all stores to remove and confiscate expired goods. Some owners of expired goods were fined, while others were taken to the Bole district court for prosecution.

In an interview with a correspondent from Kasha FM based in Damongo, Mr. Anass Osman, the District Environmental Health Officer for Bole District Assembly, stated that many convenience stores in Bole do not properly check the quality of their products before selling them. He emphasized that their primary goal is to safeguard public health by ensuring that only safe food is sold in the market, hence the regular inspections of convenience stores.

Mr. Osman mentioned that previously confiscated expired goods will be destroyed, and his department will conduct such surprise inspections every four months to protect the public.

He also announced that his department will collaborate with the media for future inspections. During the disposal of seized goods, the media will be invited to observe and report on the process.

The District Coordinating Director of Bole, Mr. Adam Habib, stated that the public health exercise began two weeks prior to inspecting and confiscating expired goods from the market. He assured that the District Assembly will continue to conduct such exercises frequently to safeguard public health in Bole.

Mr. Habib appealed to Chiefs, Assembly members, and stakeholders to help educate the public about the importance of checking product quality.
