The Member of Parliament for the Bole-Bamboi constituency, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana on Friday visited Sonyo to assist them prepare for this year's Deng Festival.
The 2024 edition of the annual festival is scheduled from Tuesday 7th May to Friday 10th May 2024.
The Deng festival is celebrated by the chiefs and people of Sonyo in the Bole District and is the biggest gathering of people in the area making it one of the biggest festivals in the Savannah region of Ghana.
The festival serves as a pilgrimage for the Vagla, Safalba, Chorba and Nomee people as well as people from across the country and outside who have received favor from Sonyo Kipo, the most powerful deity in the Savannah region.
The Bole-Bamboi MP handed over 10 street lights bulbs to illuminate the community, and an amount of GHC2,800 for the refurbishment of broken boreholes to serve the huge numbers that will be visiting the community for the Deng festival.
He also presented bags of rice and some cash to the Kadewura, Kubuu wura and the Kasange wura who are the traditional leaders of the celebrations to enable them cater for visitors during the festival.
Dignitaries expected at thus year's Deng Festival includes former President John Dramani Mahama, ministers of state, members of Parliament, MMDCEs and heads of departments. They are expected to grace the durbar on Wednesday 8th May 2023.
