Former Sunderland and Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has unveiled plans for the All Regional Games initiative, aimed at discovering and nurturing Ghanaian talents across various sports disciplines.
In an interview on Damongo-based Kasha FM with Abudu Abdul Rahman, Gyan outlined the objectives of the initiative, emphasizing its potential to showcase Ghana's sporting prowess in the years to come.
"The All Regional Games will involve participation from all regions, with a focus on identifying and selecting the best talents in different disciplines," Gyan stated.
These disciplines include volleyball, basketball, tennis, arm wrestling, table tennis, long tennis, Para-Athletics, boxing, and more, providing a comprehensive platform for young athletes aged between 18 and 23 to exhibit their skills.
Gyan emphasized inclusivity, stating, "We don’t want to discriminate, and that is why we are offering the platform for all persons between 18 and 23 years of age to register so that when you are qualified for the trials in your region, you will have the chance to represent your region at the national level."
Highlighting the benefits for participating regions, Gyan mentioned plans to construct sports facilities such as volleyball courts named after winning teams. This incentive aims to promote sports infrastructure development across Ghana.
During a visit marked by floats on Bolgatanga's commercial street, Gyan engaged with the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, solidifying his commitment to the All-Regional Games initiative.
Launched on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the initiative is gaining momentum and appears poised to materialize into a multi-disciplinary sports event.
