In a recent development in the Damongo Constituency, tensions have risen following allegations of disruptions during the voter registration process, with Hon. Adam Mutawakilu former MP and NDC candidate at the center of the controversy.
The spokesperson for Muntawakilu also knwn as Garlus, Adam Damba Mashud has responded to claims made by the constituency secretary of the NPP that the fomer MP disrupted the registration process at Canteen, a suburb of Damongo on Wednesday.
Mr. Mashud emphasized that the use of the term "allegedly" in the report by the media, indicating a lack of complete trust in the narrative put forth by the NPP during a press conference.
According to Adam Damba Mashud, the reported fracas is an attempt by the NPP to portray themselves as victims while engaging in what the he alleges are illegal activities, such as registering non-residents or aliens in the constituency.
Mashud urged the public to view the story with doubt, suggesting that it might be a tactic to shift focus away from the current discussion about Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor's perceived disrespect and arrogance towards the Yagbonwura and Gonjalanders at the just-ended One Year Anniversary of the Yagbonwura in Damongo.
Mashud further claimed that the NDC's resistance during the registration process was in response to alleged attempts by the NPP to register individuals from outside the constituency.
He cited previous instances where non-residents were reportedly registered and allowed to vote, which the NDC aims to prevent from recurring.
Regarding specific accusations about the prevention of Fulanis from registering, Mashud dismissed these as falsehoods, asserting that their actions were aimed at upholding electoral integrity rather than targeting any specific ethnic group.
In conclusion, the NDC reiterated its commitment to utilizing all legitimate means to ensure fair and transparent electoral processes in Damongo, pledging to resist any attempts to influence the registration and voting process through illegitimate means.
