On May 6, 2024, the Member of Parliament for the Salaga-South constituency, Hajia Zuwera Ibrahima took a significant step in making healthcare accessible in the area by commissioning the Kalampor and Yahayilli Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.
The events were graced by local dignitaries including chiefs, elders, and Imams as well as community members.
The MP said her focus was on making healthcare accessible to her constituents in Kalampor, Yahayilli, and neighbouring communities which is the reason for the initiative.
The Kalampor and Yahayilli CHPS Compounds, originally constructed during the previous NDC administration in 2016 had unfortunately not been operationalized for undisclosed reasons.
However, following appeals from community leaders during her 2020 campaign, Hajia Zuwera pledged to operationalize the facilities if elected as the Member of Parliament for the area.
True to her promise, the MP utilized her share of the MP's National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Fund in 2021 to rehabilitate both compounds after four years of dormancy.
Also in 2022, Hajia Zuwera allocated her share of the MP's NHIA Fund to procure essential medical equipment, ensuring that the Kalampor and Yahayilli CHPS Compounds were fully furnished and equipped to deliver quality health-care to clients.
Additionally, the Gonjaland Association of UK & Ireland generously donated medical supplies, further enhancing the resources available to these healthcare centres.
During the commissioning ceremony, a comprehensive range of medical equipment and supplies were unveiled at each CHPS compound, including admission and delivery beds, refrigeration units for vaccines, digital thermometers, and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hand sanitisers, face masks, and disposable hair nets. Notably, the provision of motorbikes facilitated logistical support for healthcare workers, enabling efficient service delivery.
In her address, Hajia Zuwera emphasized that the commissioning of the facilities was a testament to her commitment to improving healthcare accessibility, particularly in addressing maternal and infant mortality rates within the constituency.
She expressed gratitude to the Municipal Health Administrators, Mr. Alhassan Musah and Mr. Abdul-Karim Ahat, for their support and urged residents to utilize the fully equipped facilities responsibly.
The ceremony saw the presence of Salaga-South Constituency Executives, Ghana Health Service personnel, and staff from the Office of the Member of Parliament, highlighting a collaborative effort towards advancing healthcare outcomes in the region.
