The West Gonja Municipal Football Association (WGMFA) was officially out doored in Damongo. the Savannah Regional Capital Saturday May 25, 2024.
Mr Saaka Iddrisu (Togo) will chair the executive council to take charge of football activities in the municipality for the next couple of years.
Speaking during the inaugural ceremony, Mr Iddrisu acknowledged his predecessor Mr. Sumani Iddrisu (Action) for the good work done and promised to continue from where he left.
According to Mr Saaka, some of the areas his administration will focus on include: grassroot football development, infrastructure improvement, community engagement, and capacity building.
Alhaji Abu Hassan Rydzo, Chairman of Northern Region Football Association (NRFA), who was the guest of honour at the inauguration urged the new executives to work together as a team to succeed. He said in administration or management you win together or fail together.
He appealed to clubs in the West Gonja Municipality to take advantage of the license ‘D’ coaching progromme that is being organized by the Ghana Football Association indicating that most of our current coaches are trainers. “Most of our clubs have trainers but not coaches. Let’s try and start with the license ‘D’, very soon you will not be allowed to sit on the bench if you don’t have license ‘D’, Alhaji Abu is quoted to have said.
He assured the new executive of the NRFA’s availability to extend a helping hand with regards to training and capacity building to work to develop football in the area.
In his closing remarks, the chairman of the occasion Mr Alhassan Ibrahim Jihad, thanked all and sundry for gracing the occasion and pleaded with the NRFA Chairman to try and bring some of the training programmes to the doorsteps of the municipality for easy access.
Some donations were made to the association. The NRFA Chairman Alhaji Abu Hasan Rydzo and his entourage donated two soccer balls, a trophy, and a cash amount of Ghc 500.00 to the newly inaugurated association.
An amount of Ghc 5000.00 was also donated to the association by the Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency, and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor who passed through the programme
