Buipewura Jinapor's endorsement of Bawumia spark controversy in Gonjaland

His Royal Majesty Jira Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II has sparked a heated debate in Gonjaland, raising concerns about potential favouritism and its impact on our local political landscape.

His public blessings for his son, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, and Vice President Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia have led to questions regarding his relationship with his other son, John Abdulai Jinapor who is a close associate of former President John Dramani Mahama.

Buipewura Jinapor endorsed Samuel Jinapor who is seeking re-election as member of parliament for Damongo and Dr. Bawumia, while defending Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh against accusations of arrogance when the NPP flag bearer visited his palace as part of his campaign tour of the Savannah region,

The development has raised concerns among supporters of John Jinapor in the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency and supporters of the NDC in the Savannah region.

They fear this favoritism undermines John Jinapor's political influence and may negatively impact his chances in the constituency.

During the 2020 general elections, Buipewura Jinapor's involvement in the Damongo Constituency was controversial.

Critics contend that this recent endorsement highlights an ongoing issue in Gonjaland, where treatment by the Buipewura varies based on family names and social status.

John Jinapor, the first son of Buipewura to serve in government, held significant roles including Spokesperson to Vice President Mahama and Deputy Minister for Power, contributing greatly to Ghana's energy transformation and influenced his brother Abdulai's current success.

Indeed John Jinapor's association with John Dramani Mahama brought the Jinapor family to political and traditional limelight.

Despite expectations that Buipewura Jinapor would at least show balanced support given his relationship with former President John Mahama, his recent public declarations for Dr. Bawumia have caused alarm with his constituents fearing it could affect the relationship between John Jinapor and John Dramani Mahama.

The Buipewura's invocation of the Holy Quran and his blessings for Dr. Bawumia are perceived as diminishing John Mahama's candidacy.

This perceived favoritism, viewed as strategic repositioning, raises significant concerns among those loyal to John Mahama, suggesting that the choice of Dr. Bawumia over John Mahama is a critical issue for anyone supporting the former President in Gonjaland.
