Ndan Yaa-Naa Mahama Abukari II, the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, sent a distinguished delegation to the Gonja Kingdom to fulfil a customary tradition.
This visit follows a historic visit by Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale (I) to the Dagbon Kingdom a few weeks ago.
The delegation, led by the Paramount Chief of Natom Traditional Area, Naa Bawa Mahamadu (V), included prominent chiefs such as Dr. Jacob Mahama, Chief of Zangbalon, and Ibrahim Mahamadu, Chief of Nyakpala, among others.
The visit was a gesture to honour and continue the traditional customs of Dagbon, which dictate that a follow-up visit should be made to a visitor’s home after they have paid a visit.
Mr. Alhassan Fatawu, Registrar of the Dagbon Tradition, highlighted the significance of the visit.
He stated, "We are in Damongo today on a journey directed by the King of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa-Naa Mahama Abukari II, who selected revered chiefs from the Dagbon Kingdom to fulfil our customs.
"When a visitor visits you, it is part of Dagbon tradition to follow up and see them at their home upon their return."
The Gonja Kingdom warmly received the delegation.
Mr. Abutu Kapori, Registrar of the Gonja Kingdom, expressed gratitude and highlighted Yagbonwura's happiness about the visit.
He also conveyed the Yagbonwura's message of unity between the two kingdoms.
The chiefs who assisted the Yagbonwura in receiving the Dagbon delegation at the Jakpa Palace included Damongo-wura Kelly Seidu Boresa (I) and Kulo-wura Kotochi Borewunche (I) Among others.
The visit showcases the deep-rooted traditions and mutual respect between the Dagbon and Gonja Kingdoms, promoting unity and reinforcing their historical bonds.
