His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Jira Biikunuto Jewu I, King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, extended his blessings and support to President John Dramani Mahama by attending his presidential inauguration on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra.
The King’s arrival at the Air Force Base in Accra was met with a vibrant and colorful reception from hundreds of Gonjaland sons and daughters, who warmly welcomed him and his entourage.
Before departing the capital, the Yagbonwura, accompanied by his council of elders, paid a courtesy visit to President Mahama's private office on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. The visit was to bid him farewell and offer prayers for a successful tenure as the leader of Ghana.
President Mahama, visibly elated by the gesture, expressed profound gratitude to the King and the people of Gonja for their unwavering support and prayers throughout the December elections.
He appealed for continued prayers as he faces the challenges of governing the nation, while assuring the King of a reciprocal visit in adherence to tradition.
The Yagbonwura's delegation included prominent Gonja traditional leaders such as the Damongowura Seidu Boresa I, Mankpanwura Achode I, Kikpandewura, Kulawura, and representatives of the Muslim community.
Among the dignitaries accompanied the President were notable Gonjaland personalities, including Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide to the President, John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister-Designate for Energy, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, former Minister for Agriculture, and Mahama Haruna, General Manager of Nkilgi FM.
