Wasipewura Refutes Claims of Attacks on Settler Farmers

The Wasipe Traditional Council has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that settler farmers in the Wasipe Traditional Area are fleeing due to threats from indigenes in the traditional area.

In a statement issued on March 19, 2025, the Palace described the claims as an attempt to undermine the long-standing peaceful coexistence between the indigenous people and the settler community.

According to the statement signed by Jantongwura Peter Awusi Yakubu, Secretary of the Wasipe Traditional Council, the viral video suggesting that settler farmers are leaving the area out of fear is a deliberate effort to damage the peaceful coexistence that has existed for centuries.

The Palace clarified that the only settlers leaving are those who have refused to pay royalties to the Wasipewura, Yiram Mumuni Anyame Kabasagya II, instead opting to make such payments to chiefs outside the Wasipe Traditional Area.

It further noted that some of these farmers have also withdrawn their recognition of the Wasipewura as the allodial titleholder of the lands they cultivate.

The wasipe traditional Council therefore dismissed the allegations as misleading and urged public support for maintaining harmony in the region.
