Damongowura Seidu Kelly Officially Gazetted as Legitimate Chief of Damongo

Damongowura Seidu Kelly Boresa I has been officially gazetted as the legitimate Paramount Chief of the Damongo Traditional Area, bringing an end to years of chieftaincy disputes in the area.

The gazette document, which confirms his legitimacy, was presented to him by the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, HRM Yagbonwura Biikunuto Jewu Soale I, through the National House of Chiefs.

With this certification, Damongowura Boresa I receives full endorsement from the Kingmakers, Nsorwuras, Mbonwuras, and the Overlord of Gonja, granting him both traditional and legal authority over Damongo.

He now formally serves as a member of the Yagbonwura’s Council of Elders and hosts the Overlord in Damongo, the capital of the Savannah Region.

The Damongo chieftaincy dispute began in 2016 following the death of Damongowura Jakpa James Tuntumba, with two factions—Boresa I and the late Gbeadese Yakubu—claiming rightful succession.

The conflict hindered development in the area and defied several mediation attempts by regional and municipal security councils.

The official gazetting of Damongowura Boresa I is expected to restore stability and pave the way for peace and development in the Damongo Traditional Area.
