The Movement of Rural Entrepreneurial Women (MORE-Women), on Thursday, April 17, held a stakeholder engagement and inception meeting at the Catholic Guest House in Damongo to officially launch a new initiative aimed at promoting women’s economic resilience and inclusion in decision-making and peacebuilding processes.
The project, titled “Boosting Women’s Economic Resilience and Inclusion in Decision-Making and Peacebuilding in Ghana,” is funded by the Governments of Denmark and Luxembourg through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
It seeks to address barriers to women’s participation in governance, promote economic empowerment, and strengthen resilience to climate-induced shocks.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Sixtus A. Nsoh, Programs Manager for MORE-Women, said the project will benefit 100 women—mainly female-headed households in the Yipala community.
Key interventions include the provision of two solar-powered boreholes for dry-season gardening, a three-acre fenced farmland, farm inputs, seed funding for two Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), and training in financial literacy, business development, and climate-smart agriculture.
The Municipal Director of Agriculture, Alhaji Mumuni Ibrahim, commended the project’s focus on organic farming and pledged his department’s full support for its implementation.
Stakeholders present included representatives from the Municipal Assembly, Department of Agriculture, Ghana Enterprises Agency, A Rocha Ghana, Vision Fund, World Vision, and community leaders from Yipala.
MORE-Women’s Executive Director, Mrs. Sheila Yitah, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and the UNDP for their continued support.
She emphasized that empowering women is crucial to sustainable community development and lasting peace.
