The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, cut the sod for the construction of a two-storey office complex for the Savannah Regional Lands Commission.
The project, which is expected to be completed within 12 months, will provide a permanent and well-equipped office space to enhance the Commission’s operations in the region. Hon. Sulemana, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, described the current working conditions in the Commission’s temporary office as inadequate and unbefitting of the institution’s status.
He emphasized the need for a more efficient and professional setup to handle documentation and land-related services, adding that the new facility will significantly improve service delivery.
The Deputy Minister also announced plans by the sector minister, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, to digitize the operations of the Lands Commission nationwide.
He noted that the automation process would require about $165 million and assured that similar infrastructure projects would be rolled out in the other newly created regions.
He urged the contractor, Engineering Company Limited, to deliver quality work within the agreed timeframe, warning that failure to meet expectations could lead to contract termination.
Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe Issifu, expressed gratitude to the government for choosing the region as the first among the six newly created regions to benefit from such an initiative.
He highlighted the crucial role of the Lands Commission in maintaining peace, especially by resolving land disputes among individuals and communities.
He also noted that the establishment of the office would benefit financial institutions, as proper land documentation would enable residents to access loans an opportunity many currently miss due to the lack of land titles.
The event was attended by the MCE for West Gonja, Hon. Yakubu Y. Castro; Deputy Executive Secretary (Operations) of the Lands Commission, Surv. Maxwell Adu Nsanfoah, executives of the NDC at the regional and constituency levels, staff of the Lands Commission, traditional leaders, and the media.
