Tackling Boundary Conflicts, Chieftaincy Disputes, and Land Litigations Was Key Under My Tenure- GLYA Outgone Prez

 


 

The immediate past President of the Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) Lawyer Mohammed Amin, has outlined key achievements under his tenure, with a strong call on the government to address persistent developmental challenges in the Savannah Region.

 



Speaking at the 49th Annual Congress of the Association held in Sawla in the Savannah Region on April 19th, 2025. 


The former president emphasized that his administration focused heavily on ensuring peace and security in Gonjaland by addressing internal and external boundary conflicts, chieftaincy disputes, and land litigations.

 

“These issues posed serious threats to our regional stability,” he said, adding that the GLYA leadership worked closely with the Ministry of Interior, National Security, and the Regional Security Council to devise strategies that helped preserve peace in the area.

 


Addressing a gathering of sons and daughters of Gonjaland, he urged the government to take deliberate and targeted action to bridge the region’s development gap compared to the rest of the country. 


He described the situation in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District as dire, citing that it has the lowest electricity coverage in the region, with an average of just 41%.

 

The former president also lamented the lack of adequate educational infrastructure and acknowledged the Association’s role in facilitating the absorption of the Savannah College of Education in Daboya into the public system.

 

He revealed that the GLYA submitted petitions to the Ministry for Local Government and Rural Development for the creation of four new districts including;


Yapei Kusawgu from Central Gonja, Kulaw from East Gonja Municipality, South Gonja from Kintampo North, and one district from Bole. 


He added that poor road infrastructure remains a major challenge and called for urgent government intervention.

 

The outgone president congratulated the new GLYA President, Mr. Al-Hassan Baba Darison, and his executive team, wishing them a successful tenure.

 


He also expressed appreciation to Damongowura Seidu Kelly Boresa (l) for representing the King and Overlord of Gonja at the event.
