The Executive Secretary to the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Yusif Seidu Kudus Gbeadese, has strongly refuted recent claims by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives in the Damongo Constituency regarding the commissioning and ownership of the Broto Artesian Well project.
In a statement issued on Friday, June 13, 2025, Gbeadese described the allegations as false and politically motivated.
He stated that the Broto water project remains under construction and is currently less than 80% complete, making it unfit for commissioning.
“It is a palpable lie that the MD for GWL has refused to commission the Broto well. The project is incomplete and not ready,” he stated.
Gbeadese further clarified that the project is fully funded by GWL and not through a GH₵17 million loan from the Ghana Exim Bank, as claimed by the NPP.
He also dismissed claims that Damongo MP, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, secured the project for the area, emphasizing that it was initiated under the leadership of former GWL MD, Dr. Clifford Braimah.
He noted that the Broto well is intended only as a short-term intervention, providing just 16% of Damongo's daily water demand, which currently exceeds 2,000 cubic metres.
As of December 2024, GH₵4 million had been paid to the contractor, Danank Engineering Limited, with an additional GH₵6.2 million yet to mature under the current administration.
To improve the system output, GWL has directed the contractor and consultant to drill two additional boreholes at Soalepe to support the Broto facility.
Gbeadese also accused the NPP’s Damongo Constituency Secretary, Abdul-Rahman Kadri, and his colleagues of attempting to mislead the public for political gains ahead of the party’s internal elections.
“If indeed the MP funded the project, why is he not commissioning it now?” he questioned, adding that the MP has abandoned a major water project he promised during the 2020 elections.
He assured residents that a more comprehensive water system is in the pipeline under the current NDC administration.
“The people of Damongo and Gonjaland can expect a one-stop, state-of-the-art water system that ensures 100% water coverage before the end of this administration,” he said.
Gbeadese urged NPP executives to stop using the GWL MD as a scapegoat and instead account for their own unfulfilled promises.
