Damongo Senior High School has officially handed over the mantle of student leadership to the 2025/2026 cohort of prefects, with a strong emphasis on discipline, academic excellence, and student welfare.
The ceremony, held on Tuesday, July 29 at the school's assembly hall, was attended by school leadership, staff, students, media, and past and present prefects.
The event marked a smooth transition of leadership and offered a platform to celebrate achievements and address ongoing challenges within the school.
In a farewell address, outgoing Senior Prefect and SRC President, Adongo Michael, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and highlighted major improvements made during his tenure.
These included improvements in water supply, waste management, dining services, and the school’s impressive showing in academic competitions.
“Damongo SHS secured first place in the Savannah Regional ‘What Do You Know’ contest and won the zonal finals in Bolgatanga,” he said. “We also placed fourth nationally during the 68th Independence Day finals and emerged Savannah Regional champions in the 2025 Renewable Energy Challenge.”
He also lauded the successful organization of the school’s maiden SRC Week, describing it as a milestone in student engagement and leadership development.
However, he raised concerns about persistent issues such as open defecation around the girls’ dormitory, misuse of mobile phones, and truancy.
He urged the incoming leadership and school authorities to tackle these problems to improve discipline on campus.
Incoming Senior Prefect and SRC President, Issahaku Abdul Matin, pledged to build on the foundations laid by his predecessors, emphasizing a leadership style rooted in inclusivity, mutual respect, and discipline.
“My vision is to foster open communication between students and school authorities and to celebrate our diversity as a source of strength,” he said.
Matin outlined plans to introduce development-oriented committees and intensify efforts in promoting hygiene through regular clean-up exercises and sensitization campaigns.
He also reaffirmed the SRC’s commitment to enhancing the school’s image through informative and entertaining extracurricular activities.
Staff members who delivered goodwill messages encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and maintain discipline, describing it as the bedrock of success.
Both outgoing and incoming leaders extended best wishes to final-year students as they prepare for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
