The Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi and Deputy minister for lands and natural resources, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana has assured the chiefs and people of the Bole traditional area that the Bombande led committee established by government to mediate the conflict between Gonjas and Brifors at Gbeniyiri is not to determine who owns land in the area.
The committee, according to the deputy minister, is rather to lead in delineating roles and responsibilities of settlers to ensure a peaceful coexistence.
Alhaji Yusif gave the assurance at a durbar of the chiefs and people of the Bole traditional area to climax the activities marking this year's Damba festival on Saturday in Bole.
He minced no words in describing who owned land in Gonjaland, stating that no committee can change that.
"I want to assure you that the committee mediating the conflict we witnessed in this peaceful land is not to discuss who owns land but to ensure settlers know their roles and responsibilities."
"We know, and government also knows that land in this area is owned by Gonjas and no one can change that, it is not matter to be discussed but we can have clear roles and responsibilities for all who settle here, that is what the committee is to assist us put in place."
He therefore urged the chiefs and everyone to cooperate with the committee to assist in establishing lasting resolution so that the government could focus on developing the area.
