S/R: Minister Dismisses Viral Hammer Attack Video, Confirms 30 Dead in Gbiniyiri Clash

 



The Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Lawyer Salisu Be-Awuribe, has dismissed social media claims that a viral video showing a young man struck on the head with a hammer was the son of the Kalba-Wura.

 

Speaking on *Ashumaa Savannah* on Kasha 99.5FM on Thursday, September 4, 2025, the Minister described the video as misleading and urged the public to disregard it. 


He stressed that the false claims should not be linked to the ongoing conflict in the region.

 

Updating the public on the violence, Hon. Be-Awuribe disclosed that 30 people have so far been reported dead, with three yet to be confirmed due to a canoe accident. 


The incident left eight people missing, five of whom have been retrieved dead, while three remain unaccounted for.

 

The Minister provided the following breakdown of fatalities:

 

-Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District: Seven confirmed deaths five in Jinalvo, one in Sanjari, and one in Nyage-Kura.

 

- Bole Enclave: 23 deaths, including the three yet to be confirmed. Among them: 

 

  - 3 from Danayiri

 

  - 1 from Tunbuyiri

 

  - 2 from Gbanpe

 

  - 4 from Tinye-Kura

 

  - 6 from Chinchinri

 

  - 2 from Gayiri

 

  - 8 from the canoe accident (5 retrieved, 3 missing)

 

According to the Minister, three of the deceased were Muslims who have since been buried. 


The remaining bodies are currently at the Bole, Sawla, and Damongo morgues awaiting identification by relatives.

 

The clashes also resulted in destruction of properties. The Minister revealed that three motorbikes, a tractor, a car, the Gbeniyiri-Wura’s palace, and several houses were set ablaze during the disturbances.

 

The Minister emphasized government’s commitment to restoring peace and assured that investigations are ongoing.
