Bii-Kunuto Scholarship Fund; Beneficiaries Set to Depart for China

The first group of beneficiaries under the Bii-Kunuto Scholarship Fund is scheduled to leave Ghana this Friday to pursue medical studies in China.

The students, Mahama Jewu Kamal-Deen, Khalid Ebu-yer Najuah, and Basiru Ekonatu Khadija paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, His Majesty Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, at the Jakpa Palace to express their profound gratitude for the life-changing opportunity granted them.

During their visit, the beneficiaries received wise counsel and blessings from the Yagbonwura, chiefs, and queen mothers present.

The traditional leaders advised the students to stay focused, disciplined, and committed to their studies, emphasizing that their achievements would bring honor and development to the Gonja Kingdom.

As part of the scholarship agreement, the students signed an undertaking to return and serve in Gonjaland upon completion of their studies a move that aligns with the core mission of the Bii-Kunuto Scholarship Fund, which is to build human capacity for the sustainable growth of the Gonja Kingdom.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Mahama Jewu Kamal-Deen expressed gratitude to the Yagbonwura for the opportunity.

“We are truly grateful to His Majesty Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I for this life-changing opportunity. On behalf of all beneficiaries, I pledge that we will not disappoint Yagbonwura and the Kagbanye entirely. We will work hard and return to serve our people with dignity and commitment,” he said.

In his address, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I encouraged the students to be good ambassadors of Gonjaland, to remain disciplined, and to use their education to improve the lives of their people.

The Coordinator of the Scholarship Fund, Mr. Habib Mufty Borerijnkpr, described the development as “just the tip of the iceberg,” revealing that two more students are expected to travel to the United Kingdom next year to pursue similar medical programmes under the same scheme.

The departure of this first batch marks a significant milestone in the Yagbonwura’s vision to empower the youth of Gonjaland through global educational opportunities, particularly in the field of healthcare, as part of efforts to secure a brighter and self-reliant future for the Gonja Kingdom.
