SS Gbankulso Allegedly Succumbs to Pressure, Abandons Self-Proclaimed Mankpanwura Title

There appears to be finality to the chieftaincy controversy in the Mankpan Traditional Area as SS Gbankulso, who had earlier declared himself as the new Mankpanwura, has seemingly abandoned his claim to the eminent title.

SS Gbankulso, known traditionally as the Kichamawura of Mankpan, had earlier declared himself the new Mankpanwura following the departure of the substantive chief, Mankpanwura Achoade Boreyin Abudulai I, who traveled to Mecca on pilgrimage.

His self-proclamation sparked tension within the Mankpan Traditional Area and drew widespread condemnation from traditional authorities and opinion leaders.

However, developments at the Tamale Circuit Court on 6th October 2025 appear to have exposed a turnaround in his stance.

During a cross-examination in an ongoing land dispute involving the two parties, the lawyer for Mankpanwura Achoade asked SS Bankulso a series of questions that revealed his true position.

When asked, “What is your traditional title in Mankpan?” SS Bankulso responded, “I am the Kichamawura of the Mankpan Traditional Area.”

He was further asked, “Do you know the current Mankpanwura, Achoade Boreyin Abudulai I?” to which he replied, “Yes, I know him.”

This courtroom admission has been interpreted by many observers as a clear indication that SS Bankulso has finally succumbed to pressure and relinquished his self-acclaimed position as Mankpanwura.

The development has been widely welcomed by residents of Mankpan and the broader Gonja Traditional Area, who view it as a victory for peace, unity, and respect for traditional authority.

Traditional leaders and elders are hopeful that this episode marks the end of the dispute, paving the way for continued development and stability in Mankpan.
