Damongo Senior High School has made history as the first school from the Savannah Region to reach the grand finale of the Senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge, finishing 6th in a highly competitive national event.
The prestigious competition, organized by the Energy Commission, was held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, and brought together some of Ghana’s brightest young innovators to showcase practical solutions in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Representing the Savannah Region, Damongo SHS presented an innovative project titled “Transforming Food Waste into Sustainable Biodegradable Solutions.” The project seeks to convert food waste into eco-friendly materials to help reduce pollution and promote a cleaner, healthier environment.
Damongo SHS competed against five other top institutions, with the final results as follows:
1. Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School
2. Ahantaman Girls’ Senior High School
3. Ola Girls’ Senior High School
4. Dabokpa Technical Institute
5. Adidome Senior High School
6. Damongo Senior High School
The remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone for both Damongo SHS and the Savannah Region, inspiring a new generation of students to explore renewable energy innovations and scientific creativity.
Each participating school received a package of books, plaques, laptops, solar lamps, mobile phones, cash prizes, and souvenirs to support academic and research activities.
