The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has accepted an apology from the Brifo-Lobi following recent violent disturbances that claimed several lives and displaced many residents.
After the clashes, the Brifo Council of Elders first visited the Bolewura to apologize for the incident.
The Bolewura, however, directed them to present their apology to the Yagbonwura, describing him as the landlord and ultimate custodian of the Gonja Kingdom.
Acting on this directive, the Brifo delegation rendered their apology to the Yagbonwura at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo on Thursday, November 7, 2025.
In accepting the apology, the Yagbonwura instructed the Brifo community to provide specific items for traditional purification and reconciliation rites. The items include:
- Seven white cocks
- Seven rams
- Seven goats
- One hundred cows
- Seven bowls of white kola nuts
- One carton of schnapps
- One billion old Ghana cedis
The Yagbonwura gave the Brifo elders three weeks to present the items, warning that failure to meet the deadline would attract further traditional sanctions.
He explained that the rites are meant to cleanse the land and restore peace and harmony between the Gonja Kingdom and the Brifo community.
The Brifo-Lobi Council of Elders accepted the directive and pledged to comply fully with the traditional orders.
The Chairman of the Mediation Committee, Chief Monor (Abdallah Ahmed), told the media that the acceptance of the apology and the preparation to provide the purification items mark the first step toward lasting reconciliation between the two sides.
More details to follow soon.
