Yagbonwura Orders Immediate Evacuation of Non-Gonja Settlers From Nyange

The Overlord and King of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bi-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has issued a firm directive ordering all non-Gonja settlers living in and around Nyange, the traditional seat of the Gonja Kingdom, to vacate the area immediately.

According to the king, Nyange is a sacred ancestral enclave reserved exclusively for the Gonja people, and its sanctity must be protected at all costs.

The Yagbonwura made the pronouncement at the Jakpa Palace following a visit by the Council of Elders of the Lobi-Brifo community, who arrived to formally present customary items required for the purification rites of the land.

The rituals are part of ongoing traditional processes aimed at restoring peace and cleansing the area after the recent Gbiniyiri clashes, which resulted in heightened tensions and security concerns in parts of the Savannah Region.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Yagbonwura emphasized that Nyange is not just an ordinary settlement but the spiritual and historical foundation of the entire Gonja kingdom, dating back to the era of Sumaila Ndewura Jakpa, the founder of Gonja.

He stressed that tradition mandates that only Gonjas reside in the area, explaining that allowing other ethnic groups to settle there undermines the cultural and ancestral significance of the land.
