The Lobi-Brifo Council of Elders has presented the customary items requested by the Yagbonwura to purify the land following the violent disturbances in Gbiniyiri in the Savannah Region some months ago.
The presentation, which took place on Monday, 24th November, at the Jakpa Palace, fulfills the conditions issued by the Yagbonwura and his chiefs after the clashes that claimed several lives and destroyed property.
The elders had earlier sought refuge and apologized to the Yagbonwura, his chiefs, and the entire Gonja community, admitting their wrongdoing and pledging never to repeat such acts.
After accepting their apology, the Yagbonwura instructed the Lobi-Brifo Elders to provide specific customary items at three-week intervals for the cleansing rites. The Council complied and successfully delivered all required items as directed.
Addressing the media after the palace proceedings, the Member of Parliament for Bole–Bamboi and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Sulemana Yussif (Ori), who led the delegation, described the reconciliation engagement as fruitful.
According to him, the Yagbonwura emphasized the need for Brifos and all settlers in Gonjaland to coexist peacefully and avoid future misunderstandings.
He further announced that families with bodies still in the morgue could now proceed with burials. Once the burials are completed, the curfews imposed on Bole and Sawla will be fully lifted to allow normal economic activities to resume.
Hon. Sulemana Yussif extended appreciation to the President of the Republic for his intervention and guidance to work with the Regional Minister, Regional Chairman, and other stakeholders to restore lasting peace.
He reiterated that the Lobi-Brifos remain part of the Gonjaland community, saying “They are our brothers. We may disagree, but we remain one people living together."
