The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has paid a working visit to the Savannah Region as part of government’s preparations to construct three new regional hospitals beginning in 2026.
He was received at the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council by the Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe, together with regional directors, MDCEs, and health officials.
Hon. Be-Awuribe assured the Minister of the region’s full readiness, disclosing that a 102-acre land has been fully secured and documented for the regional hospital, with an additional 50 acres reserved for medical stores.
He underscored Savannah Region’s strategic potential for medical tourism and stressed the need to complete the Daboya and Palbe district hospitals to ensure comprehensive healthcare coverage.
The Regional Minister also appealed for improved staffing, accommodation, and incentive packages to address health worker distribution challenges.
Hon. Akandoh confirmed that the Savannah Region is among the first three regions selected for the new regional hospitals in 2026.
He explained that government is verifying land documentation nationwide to avoid project delays and commended the region for completing all requirements ahead of time.
He further urged MDCEs to support the retention of doctors through housing and other incentives.
The delegation later paid a courtesy call on the Yagbonwura, His Royal Majesty Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, inspected the proposed regional hospital site, and engaged health institutions in Damongo.
