The West Gonja Municipal Assembly has marked National Sanitation Day with a clean-up exercise in Damongo, the Savannah Regional capital.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Gonja, Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, joined residents and stakeholders in the exercise, which aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and public health within the municipality.
Addressing participants, Hon. Castro disclosed that the President has directed that the first Saturday of every month be dedicated to cleaning communities across the country.
He stressed the importance of taking the directive seriously, noting that regular sanitation exercises are critical to preventing disease and maintaining a healthy environment.
He urged residents to make cleanliness a collective responsibility rather than a one-day activity, adding that the Municipal Assembly will continue to support initiatives that promote proper sanitation practices.
The clean-up exercise attracted wide participation, including personnel from the security services, heads of institutions, market women, traditional authorities, and community members of Damongo.
