The Sisters of John Dramani Mahama (JDM), led by Hajia Fatima Forgor, National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, have donated medical items to the Damongo Health Centre in the Savannah Region. The donation was made on Wednesday, January 1, 2026, as part of the group’s corporate social responsibility activities.
The items were presented in the company of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Gonja, Hon. Yakubu Yussif, who reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the municipality.
Speaking during the presentation, the MCE described the health needs of residents as a top priority, outlining ongoing efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure across the municipality.
He disclosed that several CHPS compounds have already had sod cut for construction under the first year of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
According to him, only one CHPS zone SAGGIS remains uncovered, and arrangements are underway for a sod-cutting ceremony scheduled for March 2026 to complete the cycle.
Hon. Yakubu Yussif emphasized that improving healthcare delivery goes beyond infrastructure and requires collective support from individuals and groups.
He therefore welcomed the intervention by the Sisters of JDM, noting that the Damongo Health Centre was selected based on deliberate efforts to upgrade it into a municipal hospital.
He further revealed plans to construct a storey building at the facility by 2027 to enhance service delivery.
Chairperson of the group, Hajia Fatima Forgor, explained that the Sisters of JDM have been in existence for about a year and a half and were actively involved in community engagement, particularly with women, ahead of the elections to canvass support for John Dramani Mahama.
She noted that the group had promised to continue supporting women’s welfare after the NDC assumed power.
As part of fulfilling that commitment, she said the group decided to support health facilities across the Savannah Region, acknowledging that women and children are among the most vulnerable when it comes to access to healthcare.
She added that the group would proceed to the North Gonja District to make a similar donation to the Daboya Health Centre. Hajia Fatima Forgor also encouraged health workers to continue improving service delivery to justify the gesture.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Damongo Health Centre, Mr. Adam Musahon expressed gratitude to the Sisters of JDM and the Municipal Chief Executive for the support.
He described the donation as a clear demonstration of commitment to the health and well-being of the people of Damongo and assured that the items would be put to effective use.
Prior to the Damongo donation, the Sisters of JDM had made similar presentations at Sankpala in the Central Gonja District and later proceeded to Daboya in the North Gonja District to extend the gesture.
