The Savannah Regional Women’s Organization of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has donated GH¢2,000 to support the medical care of a party member battling breast cancer in Damongo.
The donation was made on Thursday, January 15, under the leadership of the Savannah Regional Women’s Organizer, Hajia Afisa Bawa Doshie, in collaboration with the Damongo Constituency Women’s Organizer, Madam Salia Afishata, and women organizers from the Hangaline branch.
The beneficiary, Madam Salifu Rachia, a resident of Damongo, has been struggling with breast cancer and is in urgent need of medical attention.
Hajia Afisa Bawa Doshie said she became aware of Madam Rachia’s condition while in Accra after receiving a call from a concerned individual.
The caller had listened to Madam Rachia’s emotional appeal on Kasha Radio’s morning show, where she spoke about her illness and expressed frustration over unfulfilled promises of assistance from an NDC appointee while seeking support for medical care.
Upon receiving the information, Hajia Afisa immediately contacted the Damongo Constituency Women’s Organizer, Madam Salia Afishata, to verify the situation and gather further details. The women leaders later visited Madam Rachia at her residence in Damongo to assess her condition.
“She is really suffering. Breast cancer causes serious physical and emotional distress to women,” Hajia Afisa said during the visit.
She explained that although the GH¢2,000 donation may seem modest, it is intended to help Madam Rachia seek medical attention and obtain a diagnosis report to guide further treatment.
Hajia Afisa urged her to submit the medical report through the Constituency Women’s Organizer to enable the women’s wing to mobilize additional support.
Madam Salifu Rachia expressed heartfelt appreciation to Hajia Afisa Bawa Doshie, the constituency and branch women organizers, and all individuals who helped bring her situation to the attention of the party leadership, saying she remains deeply grateful for their concern and timely support.
