Savannah Regional Police Present Ramadan Support to Yagbonwura, Damongowura and Chief Imam; Assure Public of Improved Security

The Ghana Police Service in the Savannah Region has presented Ramadan donations to key traditional and religious leaders in West Gonja, while assuring residents that the security situation in the region remains calm and stable.

The beneficiaries included the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I; the Paramount Chief of the Damongo Traditional Area, Damongowura Seidu Kelly Boresa I; and the Savannah Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Mushie Amadu.

Leading the delegation was the Savannah Regional Police Commander, DCOP David Amoako, accompanied by ASP Aisha Braimah, Regional MTTD Commander; DSP Quaye, Regional Crime Officer in charge of SID; and SUPT Emanuel Ofori, Damongo Municipal Commander, alongside other senior officers from the Regional Command.

Speaking during a courtesy call at the Yagbonwura’s palace, DCOP Amoako said the visit was on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to express appreciation to the Yagbonwura for his immense contribution to peace and security in the Savannah Region and the country at large.

He noted that many potential conflicts are often resolved amicably by the King and his elders before escalating into major security threats, thereby easing the burden on the Police.

The Regional Commander emphasized that the Police Administration recognizes and deeply values the cordial relationship between traditional authorities and the Police, describing the partnership as essential to maintaining stability.

In view of the Ramadan season, he explained that the donation was intended to support the Yagbonwura and his elders during the fasting period. He also appealed for prayers and continuous support for the Police Administration, stressing that effective policing requires collective effort and collaboration from all stakeholders.

Touching on the security situation, DCOP Amoako assured residents that Savannah Region remains generally peaceful.

He disclosed that robbery incidents previously recorded along the Buipe–Tamale and Bandakunta–Wa roads have significantly reduced. Although isolated murder cases are occasionally reported, he indicated that such incidents are not prevalent.

The delegation later extended similar Ramadan donations to the Damongowura and the Savannah Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Mushie Amadu, as part of efforts to further strengthen ties between the Police, traditional authorities and religious leaders in the region.
