JM Commissions Solar-Powered ICT Centre in Damongo to Boost BSTEM Education

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the Mahama ICT Centre in Damongo, describing the facility as a major complement to the government’s BSTEM programme aimed at strengthening science and technology education across the country.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama said the centre would enhance practical learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, with a strong focus on information and communications technology following the introduction of the BSTEM programme in the Savannah Region.

According to him, the ICT centre will provide students and young people with the opportunity to develop digital and technical skills needed to compete in the modern technology-driven world.

The President also expressed satisfaction that the facility is fully powered by solar energy, describing it as a “green lab” that supports Ghana’s sustainable development agenda and the global push for environmentally friendly infrastructure.

He noted that integrating renewable energy into educational facilities demonstrates the country’s commitment to innovation, climate-conscious development and quality education.

The commissioning of the Mahama ICT Centre forms part of efforts to expand access to digital learning infrastructure and improve STEM education in underserved communities.
